Build brand recognition, anticipation & excitement around the opening of the in-person conference while being repurposed for online digital consumption as a motion graphic opening of live talks from the conference.
Use basic 3D shapes, dramatic camera angles & the play of shadow & light to highlight the essence of the architectural mind-set & spirit.
Simple forms & extruded 3D type mingle to create a dramatic feeling of creation & innovation.
Monterey Design Conference is referred to as “The TED Conference for Architects”. Every other year, architects gather to share ideas, workflows & inspire the built environment & the next generation of innovators. I was tasked to establish the mood & build anticipation using a motion graphics opening video for the keynote opening talk. The video would later be used as an intro to the recorded live talks that would be used on social media platforms & email campaigns. We started with the conference poster artwork that had already been established. We turned the 2D printed artwork into a 3D extrusion & moved the camera through the resulting abstracted shapes of the letters. Using a minimal color scheme, we focused on basic shapes, form & the play of light & dark across objects. Capturing the ethos of architects & of the conference was of our main concern. A feeling of possibility & a blank slate waiting to be filled were driving emotions behind the animation. The resulting video creates a feeling of growth, movement & progress that inspires & captivates.
